It goes without saying that there is often an inherent conflict between science and economies. Emission trading is an interesting effort in the global warming arena.
Understanding Emissions Trading and Global Warming
One of the most discussed methods to counter global warming is carbon capping and charging carbon dioxide emitters a fee to invest in carbon-absorbing technologies. Planting more trees with the monies collected is a frequently mentioned solution, the efficacy of which still remains to be proven.
But how much such an approach would cost per ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission? What would be its impact on the global economy? The numbers are slowly emerging.
Most scientists believe that the current global warming is caused by man-made emissions of greenhouse gases and that the most important of these gases is Carbon Dioxide or CO2.
They also believe that the Sun’s influence for this warming is very small. We now know that the irradiance or “heat transfer” from the Sun to the Earth has varied relative little during recent decades. Therefore the conclusion that most scientists have done is that the resent warming must be man-made, this is because they haven’t found any other reasonable explanation.
What do you think could come in as more important to our basic human needs such as food, shelter, medicine, education or even the need for affection? There could be one issue that would predetermine everything that will transpire on the planet, and that is the planet’s condition. If the world were on the brink of destruction, saving it would be the priority of every single individual. And save it we must. Although the threat is still not at a life and death level, there is an alarming truth that there are several problems that are now bugging the place that we live in. Say hello to global warming. And try to say bye - stop global warming!
Global warming, which is also known as the greenhouse effect, has been here long before you or anybody else out there existed. It’s been here for thousands of years. And through those thousands of years, the earth’s temperature has increased, and so has the effects of global warming. Time magazine has actually coined this problem as a planetary emergency.
USA Today recently reported that after a post 9/11 slump, air travel has risen to a record high. An Arbitron study compiled just two years after flights had come to a standstill shows that half of this country’s 92 plus million air travelers routinely take two or more trips annually. Seventeen million qualify as frequent filers, traveling four to nine times a year. Few of us give a second thought to flying for holidays, vacations and business meetings.
If you haven’t seen the documentary, An Inconvenient Truth on the Earth’s climate crisis featuring Al Gore as he lectured around the world, you need to make it a priority.
Global warming, certainly is one of the hotly debated issues across the world. You will find that it is a topic of discussion and debate for many current affairs programmes on various electronic mediums of communication like television, radio, and internet blogs and sites. It is no surprise given the involvement of celebrities representing various fields. Records suggest that lately, many celebrities have taken a open position on the issue of globalisation which affects our mother earth.
Foremost among these is the award winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio who has turned an environmentalist. He is using his celebrity status to bring many environmental issues in general and global warming in particular, into focus and make them topic of debates. HE has made numerous appearances at global warning related events. He has even a created his own documentary titled 11th Hour. Most certainly Leonardo DiCaprio has managed to leverage his celebrity status to bring much needed attention to global warming, as well as other environmental issues.
While the drastic effects of global warming has been discussed in many scientific circles, had their run on TV and even had major exposure through well-meaning (but sadly inaccurate) Hollywood films, it’s a concern that has a broad political, economic, social and geographical significance to countries all over the world. Quite literally, for all of us, there is nowhere to hide, nowhere to run and we can’t stop the climate from changing. It’s just way too big for us.
How to recognize global warming
Whether or not it’s brewing something good or something bad, Nature always tries to warn us through many signs. The slow process involved in global warming results in many different things and some of its signs include:
About fifteen years ago there was a group of scientists claiming that the Ice Age was coming and many had bought bumper stickers to remind us of the whole ordeal that would kill 2/3 of all life on Earth. Today, Al Gore and a group of socialists and scientists claim we are all going to die from massive flooding due to too much CO2 in the atmosphere, that simply is not so.
So who can you believe? After all if the atmosphere is thickened with particulate that will cause severe storms supposedly, which means more evaporation which means more water in the sky, which means it will block the sun’s rays and then the regions will cool again? Ah ha, a self-sustaining system, by gosh I think you now understand why all this is so irrelevant.
