Home builders are looking to niche segments of the population to continue in business. There are many potential niches that are at least partly viable in some markets. For instance, homes geared for foreign buyers, home geared towards single moms, retirement gated communities, low-income housing and even eco-homes with the latest and greatest energy efficiencies. All these are growing trends, but let us discuss the Eco-Homes and how the home building and residential new home construction is catering to this growing market segment.
Recently, the National Association of Home Builders launched the National Green Building Program, this program is being received very well in the new home construction community, as builders take their expertise and focus on efficient homes, green living and doing it all using the latest cost reduction strategies to stay competitive. Read this PR release from the DOE - Department of Energy, which has partnered up with the National Association of Builders: continue reading »
The objective of federal grants is to strengthen the US and its workforce. The main aim is to develop the economy by building a strong economic infrastructure. Details are available in a single website, grants.gov, providing a one-stop shop for applying for grants. According to the website there are over 1,000 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies. These programs fall into 21 categories defined by the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. Grants are awarded in categories such as Agriculture, Health, Arts, Housing, Business and Commerce, Humanities, Community Development, Information and Statistics, Consumer Protection, Law, Justice, and Legal Services, Disaster Prevention and Relief, Natural Resources, Education, Regional Development, Employment, Labor and Training, Science and Technology, Energy, Social Services and Income Security, Environmental Quality, Transportation and Food and Nutrition.
Government grants are the greatest form of financial assistance. They are awarded in the form of money to be used for a specific purpose. One attraction about the federal grants is that you need not pay them back, because it is basically a government assistance to get your education or improve your business.
How do biodegradable packing products compare to those made of plastic? Do they compromise the protection of the item within the package? How do they work? First of all, they do not compromise the protection aspect. They are just as effective as many of the plastic products used to ship items. The difference is that they will degrade or disintegrate over time rather than be released somewhere in the environment to remain for months or years at a time. Such waste can put habitats at risk and puts the environment at risk as well. With biodegradable packing products, they will dissolve over time and not have a negative impact on animal habitats and the environment.
As far as how they work, biodegradable packing is plant-based, which means they are made up of renewable resources. They are created from nature, which means they decompose completely within weeks or months. This works well if the material ends up in the environment or if the biodegradable materials are placed within a composting area.
A good land manager has the knowledge, experience and contacts necessary to reduce both time and money in reaching the objectives of the landowner. The Internet will put you on the fast tract in finding reliable information and professional guidance towards your wildlife habitat goals.
Searching the Internet, should begin with visiting the following sites of the USDA (US Department of Agriculture), FSA (Farm Service Agency), NRCS (Natural Resource Conservation Services) and finally the individual state DNR (Department of Natural Resources) that your ground is located. These government organizations will provide helpful articles and tips for conservation. And even more important especially for the out of state landowner, provide key contacts to local wildlife habitat and timberland managers.

The word “green” has been altered from a simple colour mix of yellow and blue, and has been converted into a lifestyle and design. Green is now used to define buildings and behaviour, with recycling, grey water, energy efficiency and air quality. If something is environmental or if you are being environmental that would be labelled green.
For example, there are essentially four pillars that can be looked at, when looking at a green design for a building. The first would be the building materials and resources. Essentially these should allow for minimal environmental impact, embodied energy and be sustainable. The second pillar would include the indoor air environment, with regards to natural ventilation and minimizing volatile organic compounds (VOC) in applications such as paint.
Austin has long been a home for friendly folk- friendly to each other, friendly to animals, and friendly to the environment. What used to be considered as only the concerns of hippies and the bohemian sect, environmentalism is now at the forefront of commercial and residential design, and “green” businesses are popping up nationwide. Austin, however, was the first city in the United States to establish a local green-building program, laying out environmentally friendly and sustainable guidelines for home builders and its interested citizens back in 1991.
Since the Austin real estate market is known nationwide as the leader of these green building methods, the National Association of Home Builders chose the city as its hub to launch an industry-wide effort to establish green-building guidelines in 2004. These guidelines now provide a practical nationally recognized framework for builders to follow to reduce a home’s environmental impact by making them more energy efficient, improving indoor environmental quality, and so on. Though Austin has already been using similar guidelines for over a decade, now the rest of the country is following suit.
